One injured in cooking oil explosion, causing housefire

SWAN, Iowa — One person is injured after a cooking oil explosion caused a fire in a Swan home on Sunday afternoon.

According to the Pleasantville Fire Department, just after 1 p.m., several agencies were called to the 200 block of Shook Street in Swan on reports of a house fire.

Authorities say the owner of the home was warming up oil on their grill when the oil suddenly exploded.

The owner sustained burns to the face, arms, knees, and calves. Responders are still searching for a dog; the condition of the animal is unknown.

Agencies extinguished the fire. The house sustained damage to the back and right-hand side.

An investigation into the fire has been opened.
