While temperatures are a little cooler than the ones we saw on Tuesday, a lack of much wind actually made it feel pretty great outside, especially when you consider that the average high in Des Moines this time of year is 31 degrees. Your weather timeline takes you through some rain and into Friday:

Skies stay mostly clear Wednesday night, and lows will end up about where they did Tuesday night.

Changes come on Thursday. Clouds move in to southern and central Iowa by the middle of the day, and showers move in by late afternoon. Areas north of Highway 30 won’t see much precipitation from this system, but as seen below parts of southern Iowa could see over an inch of rain by midday Friday. This is a pretty impressive rainfall amount for late January in Iowa. Rain looks to be done by early Friday afternoon.

Turning to temperatures, highs will be mild given the time of year through Sunday. Colder air then moves into Iowa next week.

The extended forecasts below seem to indicate we’ll see highs at or slightly below average and decent precipitation chances as we head through the first two weeks of February.

As for snow, the 50 members of the European ensemble computer model below don’t give us hope for heavy amounts through 2/13. The green line is the average snowfall from the 50 different iterations, and the blue line indicates the snowfall output of the operational European model.
