AMES, Iowa — One person was injured after a grass fire spread to a house in Ames Monday afternoon.
At around 1:15 p.m. the Ames Fire Department responded to a report of a grass fire west of Ames. When firefighters arrived on scene they found the fire had spread to a nearby house in the 5400 block of Norris Street.
According to the City of Ames, one person was inside the home and suffered burns and smoke inhalation. The victim was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire, but will remain at the scene for several hours due to windy conditions.
The American Red Cross is assisting the family who’s now displaced due to the fire.
