Suspect charged in convenience store armed robbery; handgun recovered

DES MOINES, Iowa — A suspect has been charged in the Friday morning convenience store armed robbery in the Columbus Park neighborhood.

At approximately 11:46 a.m., the Des Moines Police Department was called to 1516 Southeast 1st Street on reports of an armed robbery at a convenience store.

In the 911 call, the clerk reported that the suspect entered the store, threatened her with a handgun, and robbed the store. The suspect then fled the scene on foot. The clerk was not injured.

According to police, at approximately 12:08 p.m. officers found the suspect at the intersection of East 5th Street and East Court Avenue. The suspect was taken into custody, and a semi-automatic handgun was recovered.

The Crimes Against Persons Section detectives continued the investigation and charged 20-year-old Donovan Duane Green with first-degree robbery and persons ineligible to carry weapons.

An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
