HARDIN COUNTY, Iowa — One person is dead after a car and train collided in Hardin County on Thursday.
According to an Iowa State Patrol crash report, at approximately 10:53 a.m. a collision between a train and Toyota Prius occurred on 290th Street between E Avenue and F Avenue.
The ISP said the Prius was traveling eastbound on 290th Street and failed to yield at a railroad crossing where a train was traveling northbound. The front of the train collided with the rear passenger side of the car, according to the report.
The driver of the vehicle was life flighted to a Des Moines hospital where the driver later died. The driver’s name is being withheld pending notification of family.
Authorities have opened an investigation into the crash.
