GRINNELL, Iowa — JELD-WEN Windows & Doors announced that the Grinnell windows plant will be shutting down and laying off almost 300 people.
On Monday, JELD-WEN announced they would be ceasing operation at the Grinnell windows location in the coming weeks. According to a release, the transition to move production to other pre-existing JELD-WEN locations will begin immediately.
Though the windows factory is closing, the Grinnell JELD-WEN doors division is expected to continue operations.
According to the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act (WARN) list, the plant will close on March 21.
Following the announcement, JELD-WEN released a statement reading in part:
We value the contributions of our employees and have provided those affected with a competitive separation package and outplacement services to help provide a smooth transition. While decisions that impact people are never easy, we make them only after careful consideration and with the understanding that our actions today are necessary to position JELD-WEN for long-term success.
Katie Lykins, External Communications Manager
This announcement comes just a few months after the JELD-WEN Grinnell factory layoff in November 2024, where 152 employees were laid off.
At the time of the November 2024 layoffs, a statement was released, reading in part:
While these decisions are difficult, we are taking steps to simplify and strengthen the company, and meet future demand against current labor force, which includes optimizing our operations network to better compete in the market we serve.
Katie Lykins, External Communications Manager
Iowa isn’t the only one affected. In 2024, several other locations also experienced shutdowns and layoffs. A plant closure in Hawkins, Wisconsin resulted in 338 people being laid off and in Vista, California the closure resulted in 110 people being laid off.
