Des Moines teen headed to World Axe and Knife Throwing Championship

WEST DES MOINES, Iowa — Fourteen-year-old Liam Etter is headed to the World Axe and Knife Throwing Championship this April.

Etter practices and competes in axe-throwing competitions at Ironside Axe Club, an axe-throwing club in West Des Moines.

Shane Funk, one of the coaches at the club, and one of Etter’s coaches, said that he’s happy to bring Etter to compete in tournaments.

“Everybody knows who Liam is, so keeping him around is great like for my image, for sure. Throwing with everybody though, high caliber wise, definitely a different kind of ball game,” Funk said.

Liam competes against adults regularly and will at the World Axe and Knife Throwing Championship. Ten other members of the Ironside Axe Club League will also compete in the event.

The World Axe and Knife Throwing Championship is set to take place in Wisconsin from April 3rd-6th.
