WASHINGTON (NEXSTAR) – President Donald Trump told reporters Tuesday that former President Joe Biden wrote him a “nice letter.”
As part of an Inauguration Day tradition, the letter was left inside the Resolute Desk at the White House. President Trump found the letter in the Oval Office on Monday night following his inauguration.
“He wrote me a nice letter,” Trump said. “It was a little bit of an inspirational-type letter. Enjoy it. Do a good job. Important, very important how important the job is.”
President Trump went on to say that he might let people see it at some point and he appreciated the letter.
The tradition of the outgoing president leaving the incoming president a letter started with Ronald Reagan in 1989. Reagan left a note for his successor George H.W. Bush who served as his vice president of eight years.
President Trump left a note for Biden when Biden took office in 2021, but the contents of the letter have never been shared.
