Protect your pets from dangerous sub-zero temps

DES MOINES, Iowa — With forecasted double-digit below-zero temperatures Tuesday it’s important for pet owners to make sure their four-legged friends stay safe and warm.

Mackenzie Mogren, a Marketing and Public Relations Manager with the Animal Rescue League of Iowa, said pet parents should limit their pets’ time outside when it’s dangerously cold.

“When it’s this cold, we really want to limit outside time as much as possible. Our dogs, they need to go outside to go potty and do their business, but just kind of limit it to that. We really want to ensure that they’re staying as warm as possible,” Mogren said.

The Animal Rescue League of Iowa also recommends pet owners clean their pets’ paws when they come back in from the outdoors to make sure there’s no road salt or other chemicals on them.
