DSM man receives 17-year sentence for supplying fentanyl that killed 1-year-old

DES MOINES, Iowa — A Des Moines man was sentenced to almost two decades in prison on Thursday for distributing fentanyl that resulted in the overdose death of a one-year-old.

According to the United States Attorney’s Office Southern District of Iowa, on April 29, 2023 Kenneth Leroy Quinn, 23, distributed fentanyl pills to an individual. That individual then took some of the pills home, where the individual’s one-year-old child later ingested the pills and died of acute fentanyl toxicity.

Police opened an investigation into Quinn, which consisted of officers purchasing marijuana from Quinn six times and the execution of a search warrant that turned up multiple firearms, several pounds of marijuana, roughly an ounce of methamphetamine, and three-quarters of an ounce of cocaine, the attorney’s office said.

Quinn was sentenced to 17 years in federal prison. Once released, he will have to undergo five years of supervised release.
