Death investigation underway after adult male found dead at Badger Creek Lake

MADISON COUNTY, Iowa — A death investigation is underway after the body of an adult male was found at Badger Creek Lake on Friday.

According to the Madison County Sheriff’s Office, at around 10:20 a.m. deputies responded to Badger Creek Lake after the body of an adult male was found.

A preliminary investigation found that the adult male drove his vehicle onto the frozen lake either late Thursday night or early Friday morning to ice fish, the sheriff’s office said. After driving onto the lake, roughly 115 feet from the shoreline, the ice broke and the vehicle fell in.

The sheriff’s office said the adult male was able to escape from the submerged vehicle and make it to shore, but he later succumbed to his injuries. The man’s identity has not been released.

A death investigation is underway and the sheriff’s office said no foul play is suspected.

The sheriff’s office was assisted by the Iowa Department of Natural Resources, Story County Sheriff’s Office Dive Team, Central Iowa Underwater Search & Rescue, Madison County Ambulance, and the Madison County Medical Examiner’s Office.
