GUTHRIE COUNTY, Iowa — A woman who was killed in a house fire in Menlo Tuesday morning has been identified.
At around 9:20 a.m. the Menlo Fire Department and Stuart Fire and Rescue were called to a home in the 400 block of 3rd Street on a report of a fire. When firefighters arrived on scene they found heavy smoke and flames coming from the home.
According to the Adair & Guthrie County Emergency Management Agency, during a search of the home firefighters located a 73-year-old woman dead at the end of a hallway near an exit. On Wednesday officials identified the victim as Denise K. Miller. An autopsy has been scheduled to determine her exact cause of death. Miller’s dog was also found dead inside the home.
“Sincere condolences to the family and friends of Denise who was a lifelong beloved member of the Menlo community,” the emergency management agency said in a statement. “The family, Menlo area and surrounding communities are mourning her loss.”
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
