DES MOINES, Iowa — The Des Moines Police Department released more information about a deadly officer-involved shooting that happened Thursday evening.
According to DMPD, officers responded to a home in the 2100 block of Meadow Court on a report of an individual wanted on multiple charges, including Domestic Abuse Assault and Felon in Possession of A Firearm, at the home. Police said when officers entered the home they encountered the suspect, identified as an adult male, who attempted to flee.
Bodycam footage showed that as officers were yelling at the suspect to stop and show his hands, the suspect fired a handgun at one of the officers, police said. Two officers returned fire and shot the suspect. Despite lifesaving measures the suspect died at the scene.
A third officer was at the scene, but didn’t fire a weapon. None of the officers were injured in the shooting.
Police said the officers involved have been put on administrative assignment per department policy. The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation will be leading the investigation into the shooting.
