CLIVE, Iowa — A Grimes woman is celebrating after winning $150,000 from a lottery scratcher placed in her Christmas stocking.
Taylor Caffrey, 25, won the top prize in the scratch game “Money Gift” and claimed her prize Friday at the Iowa Lottery headquarters in Clive.
The ticket was placed in her Christmas stocking by her mom, something Caffrey says is a family tradition. According to Caffrey, this is the first time anyone has won big.
The winning ticket was purchased by her mother at the Hy-Vee Fast & Fresh located at 9150 Southeast University in West Des Moines.
Caffrey says she will use the money to pay down college loan debt and plans to save up to buy a home.
This win means there are only two wins left for the “Money Gift” top prize of $150,000. According to Iowa Lottery, a $10 scratch game has overall odds of winning 1 in 2.83.
