Forecast: More fog and drizzle, then showers

Christmas day is looking similar to Tuesday, with low clouds, light fog, and drizzle around. This pattern will continue into the day on Thursday (if not longer), and your weather timeline walks you through it.

A dense fog advisory has been issued for the southeast and northwestern parts of Iowa into Thursday morning. I believe that we may see the area this advisory covers expand Wednesday night.

Low visibilities will likely be around the next two overnights into the morning hours as well (as shown below). Give yourself extra time if you’re travelling during the morning hours Thursday and Friday.

Drizzle looks to be replaced by showers starting Thursday evening and lasting intermittently into the late morning hours on Saturday before ending. The extended outlook below gives us an estimate of how much rain will fall by Saturday afternoon.

The sun might make at least a brief reappearance on Sunday. We may then see rain late Monday and some light snow early on Tuesday. We will keep you informed.
