NORWALK, Iowa — Two family pets died in a house fire in Norwalk over the weekend.
On Sunday at around 11:46 a.m. the Norwalk Fire Department responded to a report of a house fire in the 1500 block of Holly Drive, according to a post on Facebook. While enroute to the house firefighters saw smoke in the area.
The Norwalk Fire Department said when firefighters arrived at the house there were flames coming from the living room and front entrance. An “aggressive interior attack” was made to bring the fire under control.
While searching the home, firefighters found two dogs inside. The dogs were removed from the home and were provided with life support care, however it was unsuccessful, the fire department said.
One resident was inside the home when the fire started, but was able to safely evacuate after hearing the smoke alarms go off, the fire department said. No injuries to residents or firefighters were reported.
According to the fire department, damage is estimated to be about $175,000. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
The American Red Cross is assisting the family affected by the fire.
