Des Moines International Airport expects to see 79,000 travelers over the holidays

DES MOINES, Iowa — The Des Moines International Airport estimates that between December 20th and January 6th, 79,000 people will travel using the airport.

Here are some tips to avoid any travel troubles at the airport this holiday season:

  • Arrive at the airport 90 minutes to two hours before your flight’s departure time.
  • Download your airline’s app and check in before you get to the airport
  • Wrapped gifts are not allowed through the TSA line. They must be packed in a checked bag
  • Check the Des Moines Airport’s website before leaving to see if there are any delays.

Sarah Hoodjer, the Communications, Marketing and Air Service Development Manager at the Des Moines International Airport, said the airport’s website is a good resource for those who have not traveled for a while.

“So, during the holidays you do see a lot of people who don’t frequent the airport as much as our business travelers. So, coming in is kind of a shock to them. Seeing that building go up. Just saw the construction areas around here. So, we did update our lift DSM web page so that we’ll have up to date information on what our fliers need to know before they get to the airport. So, it’s just another place they can check to know what to expect, especially if they haven’t been here in a while.” Hoodjer said.
