NEWTON, Iowa — A Lynnville woman died Saturday afternoon in a crash on Highway T-22 in Jasper County.

According to Iowa State Patrol, at around 4:30 p.m. on Saturday near the 3251 block of Highway T-22, a truck crossed the centerline and collided with another truck.

The report says a box truck was traveling southbound on T-22 when the right tires of the truck went off the edge. The driver then overcorrected and crossed into the northbound lanes.

A pick-up truck was traveling in the northbound lanes and took evasive action. The trucks collided head-on and slid into the ditch.

Jill Van Dyke, the passenger in the pick-up truck, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the truck, Gerry Van Dyke, was transported to the hospital. The driver of the box truck did not sustain any injuries.

Authorities have opened an investigation into the accident.
