DES MOINES, Iowa — The Des Moines Police Department is advising against road travel after responding to 19 vehicle crashes starting last night.
According to police, between Friday at 10 p.m. and Saturday at 10 a.m., officers responded to 19 vehicle crashes.
Five of the crashes were reported as hit and run crashes. No injures have been reported.
During the same time period, the Des Moines Fire Department responded to 15 reports of falls.
Des Moines remained in a Winter Weather Advisory until 12 p.m. Saturday. However, rain and mist are still expected to fall, prolonging the icy dangerous conditions.
Officers report that Des Moines Public Works crews worked through the night and are continuing to work on snow routes.
If you must travel, police remind drivers to take it slow, turn on headlights for visibility, increase your following distance, and don’t drive distracted or impaired.
