AMES Iowa — On campus Monday at Iowa State there was one topic talked about quite a bit — the game on Saturday night.
Iowa State topped Kansas State 29-21 to send the Clones to the Big 12 Championship game in Arlington, Texas Saturday, December 7. ISU takes on Arizona State in the Championship game.
Evan Haag of suburban Chicago came back early from the Thanksgiving holiday to catch the game in person.
“I came back here specifically from home and you know we knew that there was a lot on the line,” said Haag. “You know everyone kind of crammed down towards the front of the bleachers towards the end of the fourth quarter and then once the game went final everyone started going over the wall.”
Haag is now planning to drive to Dallas for the game on Saturday.
“I’m excited. My roommates I’m going with are excited, it’ll be a long drive and I mean it’s a big game,” said Haag. “For tickets they do a raffle system so students that have season tickets already, that they paid for, entered into a raffle to get tickets for that game.”
On Monday Iowa State Big 12 Championship t-shirts were on sale. Graphic designers at the ISU Bookstore had been working on the design of the logo for some time, all that was needed was to put in the helmet of the opposing team, and the shirts could be printed in Kansas City. The screen printers started on Sunday and produced 2,700 shirts. They were loaded into boxes in a van and delivered to Ames Monday around 2:15 p.m.
“It’s a team effort. So, starting with the behind-the-scenes, drawing up the art design weeks ago and having an idea of what this may look like,” said Bryce Jacobson, ISU Bookstore Assistant Director. “We had the art ready to go and for whoever we were going to play, but just as soon as 1 a.m. rolled around on Saturday and Sunday morning, we knew we were taking Arizona State at the Big 12 championship we had this art locked down and ready to go.”
The shirts are available in the ISU Bookstore, and can also be ordered online. This order does have some youth sizes.
There is optimism at the ISU Bookstore the team could produce more milestones to be marked with a t-shirt.
