POLK COUNTY, Iowa — One person is in critical condition after a semi hauling hogs and an SUV collided on Highway 65 in northeast Polk County Wednesday morning.
It happened around 11:35 a.m. at the intersection of Highway 65 and NE 112th St., according to Captain Ryan Evans with the Polk County Sheriff’s Office. A northbound semi struck an eastbound SUV and the livestock trailer ended up on its side.
The driver of the SUV, an adult woman, was transported from the scene by ambulance to a local hospital in critical condition.
The northbound lanes between northeast 94th Avenue and County Road S27 are blocked because of the crash. That’s north of Bondurant.
The southbound lanes of traffic are open.
Emergency crews remain on the scene working to clear the vehicles. Captain Evans said the roadway will be closed for some time while they figure out what to do about the livestock.
