Hope Ministries accepting food donations for Thanksgiving meals

DES MOINES, Iowa — There’s an opportunity on Wednesday to help make Thanksgiving better for some people in the metro.

Hope Ministries in Des Moines is accepting donations for its most needed holiday food items including dinner rolls and cookies.

“Our holiday meal outreach is a true community effort, so it takes all kinds of contributions. It takes financial contributions. It costs us $2.36. We’ve averaged that out over all the meals that we provide per meal, and it takes food contributions,” said Kathy Coady, Chief Development Officer at Hope Ministries.

The organization prepares Thanksgiving meals and delivers them throughout the community. It also hosts a free Thanksgiving dinner at its Hope Cafe on September 28th from noon to 1:00 p.m. Reservations are already full for the in-home meal deliveries, but all are welcome to come to the dinner at Hope Cafe – no reservations are required.

If you’d like to donate, here are the items needed:

  • Dinner rolls
  • Cookies
  • Ground beef
  • Pork loin
  • Bacon
  • Ham
  • Green beans
  • Mixed veggies
  • Condiments
  • Dressings

You can drop them off between 9:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. Wednesday at Hope Café, 1310 6th Avenue. You can also donate money here.

Hope Ministries provides a Christmas dinner meal as well. They begin taking reservations for Christmas meal deliveries on December 2nd.
