For the most part, travel around the Upper Midwest will be pretty quiet by weather standards. Here’s the day-by-day outlook through the Thanksgiving prime travel days.
Wednesday:
Iowa will be mostly cloudy to partly sunny with highs in the mid to low 40s. A front to the south will bring scattered rain across Kansas and Missouri, ultimately building east across Illinois through Wednesday night. Temperatures will be in the 50s. There will be more clouds the further north you go into Minnesota and the Dakotas.
Thanksgiving:
Mostly cloudy to partly cloudy skies are expected over Central Iowa. It will be dry and colder. Highs will be in the upper 20s to low 30s. We’ll have more sun across Nebraska, Kansas, and Missouri but it will still be cloudy near Chicago.
Friday:
The big weather headline will be the cold on Friday. Highs will be in the teens and 20s across the region. Most places will be mostly sunny with more clouds near Minneapolis and Chicago.
National:
The biggest weather impacts will be felt in the Northeast. That is where a nor’easter may set up on Thursday into Friday with a mix of rain and snow impacting the northeast US states. Major travel hubs, like New York City, could be affected.
