Trone Garriott defeats Hanson in Iowa Senate District 14 recount

DALLAS COUNTY, Iowa — The results of a recount in Dallas County are complete for Iowa Senate District 14 and Democrat Sarah Trone Garriott has won the seat, beating Republican Mark Hanson.

Dallas County Auditor Julia Helm confirmed the results of the recount Monday, with Trone Garriott gaining a handful of votes since the original canvas bringing her total to 20,467. Hanson had 20,438 votes and there were 59 write-ins.

Trone Garriott released the following statement Monday morning about the recount results:

“The recount results have once again reaffirmed what we saw on Election Night, and following the official County Canvas of votes; our campaign has won and I am honored to have earned the votes to serve in the Iowa Senate for the next four years.

I am grateful to my volunteers and team for their incredible work through a very long election. Thank you to the Dallas County Auditor’s Office and the recount committee for their diligence to election integrity and a fair recount process.

The election is over and Dallas County residents have spoken. My constituents have re-elected me to preserve our freedoms, make the cost of living more affordable, and fight for our public schools. I’m ready to get back to work.”

Helm said the final results will be re-canvassed at Tuesday’s Dallas County Board of Supervisors’ meeting.
