Forecast: Turning colder… snow?

Temperatures were warmer today than Friday, and our warming trend continues into Sunday before coming to an end.

We’ll see a cloudy but warmer day Sunday, and it would be a good one to get outdoor chores taken care of as temperatures will get colder this week. On Monday, a system moving by to the north could produce a light mix of precipitation across the north and northeast. At the same time Monday morning, the same areas may be affected with patchy fog.

The biggest uncertainty in the forecast comes Wednesday night into Thursday. Most of the medium-range models keep a midweek system and associated precipitation to our south. However, my trusted European model does bring Thanksgiving snow into the state. The image below is from the latest run of this model and the only one that gives us this chance, so we’ll be waiting for consistency in future runs before jumping all over a snowfall forecast. We’ll keep you updated!

The six-to-ten and eight-to-fourteen-day forecasts keep us cold and dry in Iowa as we head into the first week of December.
