LE MARS, Iowa (KCAU) — A person is dead after a fiery crash in rural Plymouth County Wednesday night.
According to the Plymouth County Sheriff’s Office, a call for a field fire in the area of 160th Street and Impala Avenue, about 3 miles northwest of Brunsville, came in at around 7:22 p.m.
The release stated that when officials arrived at the scene, they discovered a pickup truck that was fully engulfed in flames.
While conducting a recovery operation, officials discovered the body of a deceased person in the driver’s seat of the truck.
Officials believe that the truck had left the roadway and continued to travel for a distance before getting stuck on an embankment. At some point after the crash, the vehicle had started on fire. Officials are currently unaware of why the driver did not escape from the vehicle.
The driver was the only occupant of the vehicle at the time of the crash and the vehicle was a total loss
The deceased individual has been transported to the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Ankeny and the crash is still being investigated. No other details were provided at this time.
The Plymouth County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Le Mars Fire and Rescue and the Plymouth County Medical Examiner.
