JOHNSTON, Iowa – Police have released the name of the person arrested Tuesday afternoon for allegedly firing a gun just a few blocks away from Johnston High School forcing a “lockout” at the school.
A news release from the Johnston Police Department says officers responded to a field in the 6900 block of NW 100th Street around 12:52 p.m. on a report of a person with a gun. Police say 19-year-old Treyvon Foy, of Johnston, was arrested in connection with the incident.
Foy is charged with reckless use of a firearm and control of a firearm by a felon. He is being held in the Polk County Jail.
Criminal complaints filed in the case claim the first caller told dispatch they saw the suspect, later identified as Foy, actively shooting a handgun in the grass field. The field is about ¾ of a mile north of the high school. Multiple other callers also reported seeing the same thing, according to the court documents.
A caller said they saw Foy enter a townhome in the 6900 block of Bluebell Court and officers set up a perimeter of the area.
Foy exited the front door of the townhome and was taken into custody.
Because of the proximity of the incident to Johnston High School all exterior doors were locked and no one was allowed into or out of the building until the incident was over.
The Johnston Police Department is continuing to investigate the incident.
