Fleur Drive Bridge will be closed until summer 2025 for sewer project

DES MOINES, Iowa — The Fleur Drive Bridge that connects to Locust Street will be closed until next summer for sewer and street projects.

The closure is part of the final leg of the Ingersoll Run Outlet Sewer Project that has also closed the intersection of Fleur Drive, Locust Street, Grand Avenue, and 18th Street — which the city hopes to turn into a small park and add a multi-use trail in the future.

According to the city, the Des Moines Metropolitan Wastewater Reclamation Authority’s project eliminates the combined sanitary and stormwater sewer system, which will help prevent overflow during heavy rainfall.

The Fleur Drive Bridge, as well as Locust street from Fleur Drive to 16th Street, will be closed starting Monday, November 11. The closure is estimated to last through summer 2025. A detour using West Martin Luther King Jr. Parkway to 16th Street will be in place for those who use Fleur Drive to get to downtown.
