POLK COUNTY, Iowa — One person was killed and another critically injured in a shooting on the north side of Des Moines Friday evening.
The Polk County Sheriff’s Office at around 5:20 p.m. responded to a shooting in the 200 block of NW 51st Place. When first responders arrived on scene they found two people suffering from gunshot wounds.
Both victims, identified as one adult female and one adult male, were transported to a nearby hospital. According to the sheriff’s office, the female victim died from her injuries at the hospital. The male victim remains hospitalized in critical condition.
A person of interest has been taken into custody. The investigation into the shooting is ongoing.
The sheriff’s office said this shooting is not connected to the shooting that occurred at the intersection of NE 14th Street and NE Broadway Avenue.
