How much rain fell in central Iowa overnight

DES MOINES, Iowa — Strong storms brought heavy rain to central Iowa overnight, causing some wind damage and several inches of rain for many locations.

Several severe thunderstorm warnings were issued along with a couple of tornado warnings. There weren’t many reports of damage other than near Osceola. A 62 mph wind gust was recorded in Appanoose and Lucas counties and a 60 mph report in Adair county.

Heavy rain was experienced across central Iowa. Several locations picked up over two inches of rain, such as Osceola, Pella, Knoxville, Grinnell, Lamoni, and Chariton. Here’s a complete list of totals across central Iowa:

More rain chances are ahead moving into the weekend and early next week. Showers build in Saturday evening and persist through Sunday. More rain is expected on Monday and Tuesday.

When all is said and done, we could be looking at several inches of rain falling over the next week. This would potentially make up our rainfall deficit for the year!
