Des Moines woman jailed after lengthy, wrong-way chase

DES MOINES, Iowa — A Des Moines woman has been arrested after police say she led multiple law enforcement agencies on a lengthy chase across the metro in a stolen car early Thursday morning.

Nicole Ruby

Nicole Ruby, 39, is charged with eluding, second-degree theft, interference with official acts, reckless driving, possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia, and driving while license suspended.

Sgt. Paul Parizek of the Des Moines Police Department said the incident began when patrol officers tried to stop a stolen Lincoln MKZ sedan near MLK, Jr. Parkway and Atkins Street around 2:40 a.m. The driver, Ruby, sped away from officers.

The pursuit traveled through the west side of Des Moines and Sgt. Parizek said it was terminated multiple times because Ruby was driving the wrong way on both Polk Blvd. and I-235. Officers re-engaged in the pursuit when circumstances were appropriate.

Sgt. Parizek said the chase moved into the western suburbs and multiple metro-area agencies assisted. Stop sticks and a PIT maneuver helped end the chase and Ruby was taken into custody around 3:12 a.m. at E. 1st Street and NE Grimes Boulevard.

Ruby was booked into the Polk County Jail just before 6:00 a.m.
