WEST DES MOINES, Iowa — Halloween is just one day away and it just isn’t the same without costumes. The Theatrical Shop in Valley Junction weighed in on what costumes have been the most popular this spooky season.

“Well, they’re going for the accessories they’re doing going for the do it yourself. They’re going for the theme costumes and a lots of makeup,” said Juanita Cameron, an employee at the shop.

Popular couples costumes include Beetlejuice and Wizard of Oz themed costumes.

“We’ve been seeing a lot of Beetlejuice, a lot of Wizard of Oz, Glinda and everything. Those have been like our top duos,” said another employee, Olive Luther.

One trend that employee Homida Mokhtar has noticed this year is the popularity of coats.

“Lots of just like coats that are iconic. So like a Willy Wonka coat or a Beetlejuice coat or a Jack Skellington coat. So really popular, something to kind of keep a person warm, but everybody will know who you are, and lots of like very specific character wigs are probably the first thing to go,” Mokhtar said.

The Theatrical Shop is located at 145 5th St. in West Des Moines’ Valley Junction and is open Monday through Saturday 10 am – 7 pm.
