WAUKEE, Iowa — The Waukee Warrior football program helped make a wish come true for their favorite fan today.
The team organized a video surprise and it played on the scoreboard after practice. Their target audience was one of the coaches’ sons who was there at practice, 10-year-old Major Strube.
Strube has cystic fibrosis. Last year he made a wish through the Make A Wish Foundation to meet San Francisco 49er and former Iowa State quarterback Brock Purdy. Major learned on Thursday that he’ll be heading to California.
“I’m going to meet pretty much all the 49ers and go to San Francisco, I forgot when, I’m so excited,” Major said.
“I’m just proud of everything that he does and he does it like a champ,” Drew Strube, Major’s dad, said. “Doesn’t complain about anything. Just takes it all in stride. It’s the life he lives. He knows it doesn’t define him.”
The Strube family will fly out to the 49ers game in December. Major’s wish is one of 150 wishes granted this year by the Make A Wish Foundation, which is a record amount.
