Driver killed after dump truck suffers tire failure in rural Iowa

POWESHIEK COUNTY, Iowa — An Iowa man was killed in a crash on Wednesday after a tire failure sent his vehicle off the road.

At around 11:28 a.m. 52-year-old Christopher Phillip Hudnut was driving a dump truck loaded with gravel westbound on Highway 85 just east of Montezuma. The dump truck had a tire failure while driving, which caused Hudnut to lose control of the vehicle and crash in the ditch, an Iowa State Patrol crash report states.

Hudnut died from his injuries at the scene. According to the crash report, Hudnut was not wearing a seatbelt.
