DES MOINES, Iowa — There are just 15 days until the November election, and many people are hitting the polls early to vote in person or request an absentee ballot. The deadline to request an absentee ballot in Iowa passed Monday at 5 p.m., but there are still plenty of ways Iowans can cast their vote. Iowans can still vote in-person at their county auditor’s office or at satellite voting locations.
“These are going to be locations that are going to be close to you, they’re going to be in your neighborhood a lot of times,” Jamie Fitzgerald, Polk County Auditor, said. “They have been petitioned and will be running for four days in Polk County, then after that, your plans are going to be to either vote in the Polk County election office or to your polling site on election day.”
Fitzgerald said that since early voting started Wednesday, the Polk County Auditor’s office has seen around 1,300 voters daily.
“We are actually getting ready to leave the state,” Cheryl Johnston, a resident of eastern Polk County, said. “On Monday we are going to our winter home and won’t be here on election day. We don’t care to do the mail-in ballot so we just decided to come in person.”
“I have already made up my mind, so it was an easy decision to make, vote and get it done with,” Stott Howard, a Des Moines Resident, said. “Plus, the Dodgers are in the World Series and I am going to cheer them on, so I won’t be here on election day.”
