Arrest made in Sunday morning stabbing investigation in Des Moines

DES MOINES, IOWA — A 26-year-old man is charged with Attempted Murder after allegedly stabbing another man on Sunday morning in Des Moines.

The assault happened around 7:00 am, according to police, at an apartment in the 2100 block of E. Virginia Avenue. According to the victim, he and and Jimmy Padilla Herrera were hanging out in the apartment when Padilla Herrera suddenly attacked him with a kitchen knife – stabbing him in the neck. Padilla Herrera then allegedly tried attacking the victim again with a pair of scissors but was stopped by a witness to the attack.

Padilla Herrera, 26, was arrested on Sunday evening by Des Moines Police. He is charged with Attempted Murder. His next court date is scheduled for October 31st.

Padilla Herrera was erroneously booked in the Polk County Jail with the last name ‘Padilla Castro’ but that clerical error is being corrected.
