DES MOINES, Iowa — What most likely will end up as the last debate this election cycle will have the presidential candidates tuning in, along with state party leaders.
Minnesota Governor Tim Walz and Ohio U.S. Senator J.D. Vance are facing off tonight in New York with the debate starting at 8 p.m.
Iowa party leaders shared with WHO 13 News what they expect to see out of both candidates in their first appearance on the debate stage.
“He has had a great run as governor and done some great things up in Minnesota and now he wants to do that for the rest of the country. And I think that he is very genuine and honest and he’s bound and determined to fight for middle class America. And I think that’s going to come across in everything he says during this debate,” said Iowa Democratic Party Chair Rita Hart.
“We have seen Senator Vance go onto the most hostile news networks to defend his and President Trump’s record and expose all of the lies from the Harris/Walz ticket. Tonight won’t be any different – Senator Vance will show the world how dangerous a Harris/Walz White House would be for our country. President Trump made a great choice picking Senator Vance and tonight we will see that in full display,” Jeff Kaufmann, Iowa GOP Chair, said.
There will be no fact-checking from moderators and the microphones for both candidates will be left on the entirety of the event.
