DES MOINES, Iowa — Police are investigating after a gunshot victim walked into the emergency room at MercyOne in Des Moines late Monday night.

Des Moines Police Department spokesperson Sgt. Paul Parizek said the victim arrived at the ER at 11:23 p.m. That’s about the same time police were receiving reports about the occupants of two vehicles shooting at each other near 17th Street and University Avenue.

Police are investigating whether the victim is linked to the reported shooting.

Sgt. Parizek said the victim’s injuries were not life-threatening.

No other details were immediately available.
