GREENFIELD, Iowa — The Warren Cultural Center and Iowa Rock N’ Roll Music Association will be hosting a benefit concert to help rebuild the Greenfield Volunteer Fire Department that was destroyed in the deadly EF4 tornado that hit the town in May.
The ‘Greenfield Strong: Still Rockin’ After the Storm’ benefit concert will have live music from local and regional artists, as well as a raffle and auction where attendees will have the chance to win cool items like an electric guitar autographed by country music star Vince Gill.
Thaddeus Hawley, president of the Warren Cultural Center, said the idea started as a Facebook post.
“It started as a Facebook post,” Hawley said. “I just posted, ‘Anybody want to help me put on a concert for the fire department or for Greenfield?’ And Rick Hillyard from the Iowa Rock and Roll Music Association received word of that and he reached out to me and said, ‘Hey I got an electric guitar autographed by Vince Gill that I’m donating right now, we’re going to put together an event.’ And here we are now.”
The event starts at noon outside 154 Public Square in Greenfield on Sunday, September 29. Tickets are free will donations and all proceeds will go toward rebuilding the Volunteer Fire Department. For more information about the event visit the Warren Cultural Center’s website.
