NHL makes grand return to Des Moines

DES MOINES, Iowa — The Wells Fargo Arena welcomed the Saint Louis Blues and the Utah Hockey Club to kick off hockey season in Iowa.

The puck dropped at 6 p.m. Sunday and fans couldn’t be happier.

“I think it’s awesome. It helps the economy here and it’s so exciting to see the Des Moines fans and Iowa fans here to celebrate, it’s nice that it’s here this year. I’m really excited it’s a good atmosphere, it’s really fun,” Dominic Jimerson said.

If you couldn’t make it to Sunday’s match, never fear, there’s still plenty of hockey to come. Make your way to Wells Fargo on October 12 for the season opener.

Local fan Emma says she’s super excited to see hockey back, she’s ready for Iowa Wild to take the ice and hopes to see the Detroit Red Wings make an appearance in Des Moines.

Blue’s fans came out in full force packing the stadium, and despite having smaller numbers Utah fans filled the stadium with their cheers. In total 8,851 people came to welcome hockey back to Wells Fargo.

No matter your team, the stadium is in agreement. We need more hockey; we need more NHL.
