DES MOINES, Iowa — The Metro STAR Tactical Unit and Crimes Against Persons detectives responded to the King Irving Neighborhood Saturday to arrest a kidnapping suspect.

The Des Moines Police Department say the investigation began Saturday morning around 12:28 a.m. when first watch patrol officers were called to the 800 block of East Washington Avenue on reports of a fight.

When officers arrived on scene they were told a man, identified as 33-year-old Troy Lee Mure Jr., had entered into his ex-girlfriend’s house armed with a handgun. According to witnesses, Mure struck his ex-girlfriend in the head and face with the handgun, physically forced her into a vehicle, and then drove away with her.

The vehicle was later located unoccupied in the 1300 block of East 12th Street. A DMPD K9 was deployed but Mure was not found. Crimes Against Persons Section detectives were contacted to assist in investigating the incident. According to police it was eventually uncovered that Mure was at a residence in the 1500 block of Washington Avenue. Warrants were obtained and the Metro STAR Tactical Unit was called in due to violent nature of the crimes commuted, police say.

The tactical unit and detectives arrived at the residence just before 5:00 p.m. and announced their presence through the loudspeaker and provided Mure with information on surrendering. According to police, they then took Mure, without incident, outside the residence.

Mure has been charged with kidnapping 1st degree, burglary 1st degree, going armed with intent, felon in possession of a firearm, domestic abuse assault with a weapon, assault while displaying a dangerous weapon, and interference with official acts.

Mure is currently being held at the Polk County Jail. Detectives say the handgun believed to have been used has been recovered.

The investigation remains underway, and information will be shared as it becomes available.
